Japanese vs English Pokémon booster boxes: what is different and why collectors buy JPN
Japanese Pokémon sets are released before their English counterparts, usually by several months, and many collectors buy them for that reason alone. Here is how to think about the choice.
The main differences
- Timing: Japanese sets launch first, so you can open or hold the cards long before the English release.
- Pack structure: Japanese boxes typically contain more packs with fewer cards each than English boxes, and are often sold as a box of 30 packs; check the product page for the exact configuration.
- Card quality and finish: many collectors prefer the print quality and card stock of Japanese cards.
- Language: for tournament play you generally need the language of your region; for collecting it matters less.
